Parents across Clare are being encouraged not to smoke or promote a smoking culture around children and teenagers.
It comes on World No Tobacco Day, which is being marked by the ‘Not Around Us – Towards a Tobacco and Vape Free Clare’ campaign, ran by Clare County Council in conjunction with the HSE.
A 2018 survey found that 23 percent of Clare’s population are smokers – higher than the 2019 national average of 17 percent.

Healthy Clare co-ordinator with the local authority, Karen Fennessy, says a target of having just 5 percent of the population smoking by 2025 is achievable.
