HIQA Inspectors Told Residents ‘Couldn’t Fault’ West Clare Nursing Home

Health inspectors visiting a West Clare nursing home earlier this summer were told residents ‘couldn’t fault the place’.

The findings are contained in a HIQA report published this week on the Kilrush Nursing Home on the Killimer Road in the town.

The unannounced inspection took place at the facility on the 30th of June this year, when 44 residents were on the premises on the day.

The inspector was told by residents that staff were very kind and caring in the home, and that they were thankful the centre had remained free of COVID-19 up to that point.

Interaction between residents and home employees was deemed to be ‘positive, engaging and kind’ and a relax atmosphere was documented to be evident.

Those present in the home told inspectors of their delight that the local priest was once again able to celebrate mass in person with them in account of public health restrictions being relaxed.

The Kilrush Nursing Home was found to be fully compliant in 12 of the 13 areas it was assessed on, and substantially compliant in the other, which was fire precautions.

In response, the facility committed to undertaking bi-weekly fire drills and making further efforts to reduce evacuation time in such instances.
