The seeds of victory were sown in a powerful third quarter showing as the first of a Keelan Sexton brace of goals saw them open up a 1-10 to 0-5 lead.

That gap was cut to six in the final period, but the 2-13 to 2-7 win was never really in any doubt.

Kilmurry manager Aidan Moloney was pleased to have secured their passage to the next stage of the championship.

Elsewhere in Group One, Ennistymon had a late double from Ross O’Doherty to thank for their first win of the campaign as his goals helped them see off the challenge of Cooraclare by 2-11 to 0-10.

St Breckan’s secured top spot in Group Two, but had to battle all the way before overcoming Kilrush by 0-15 to 1-8.

It sees the North Clare men through to the quarter-finals for the second year running, and manager Donie Garrihy praised the manner in which his side went about securing the points.

Last years intermediate champions Doora Barefield put themselves in a strong position to make the last eight as they powered to a 5-15 to 0-14 win over Kilmihil.

Meanwhile Group Three will provide the most drama on the final day with all four teams deadlocked on two points after the opening two rounds.

It’s after Clondegad edged a tight encounter with Eire Óg, winning by 0-14 to 1-10, while Lissycasey left it late before securing a 2-10 to 0-10 win over Doonbeg.
