Archaeologists Carve Replica Of Pagan Idol At Craggaunowen

Archaeologists have carved a replica of a 1,600 year-old pagan idol at Craggaunowen in Co. Clare.

Researchers discovered the eight-foot-tall wooden sculpture in a bog in Roscommon during an excavation earlier this month.

The Gortnacrannagh Idol was carved just over 100 years before St. Patrick came to Ireland – the replica will go on display at the Rathcroghan Center in Roscommon.
