It was a dramatic weekend in the Clare senior hurling championship as Cratloe, Éire Óg, Newmarket on Fergus and Wolfe Tones joined Inagh-Kilnamona and Sixmilebridge in the quarter-finals.
Two very late goals from Colin Ryan helped Newmarket to a 2-18 to 1-17 win over Clooney-Quin, who now enter the relegation play-offs, along with O’Callaghan’s Mills and Clarecastle.
Newmarket manager, Tomas Ryan said that he felt his team just about deserved to win it.
Meanwhile, there was similar drama at the end of the Clonlara versus Whitegate game, when a brace of Cathal O’Connell goals, won it for his side, deep into injury-time.
Clonlara manager, Eddie Horgan, paid tribute to O’Connell but said the goals were as a result of good teamwork.
In the intermediate hurling championship there were wins for Tubber, Killanena, Bodyke, Corofin and Parteen.
Corofin beat St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield 1-22 to 3-14 in a must win game for the North Clare club, who now join St Joseph’s in the quarter-finals.
