Slight Rise In Number of Covid Patients At UHL

The number of patients receiving treatment for Covid-19 at the region’s main hospital is creeping up again.

Staff at University Hospital Limerick have this week been treating the highest number of covid patients of any hospital in the country, as the facility continues to deal with an outbreak of the virus.

The latest HSE figures show 27 patients were being treated for the virus at University Hospital Limerick this morning, up four in the space of 24 hours.

The number of patients in intensive care remains the same at 4, while there are 68 suspected cases in the hospital, down from 89 yesterday.

Contact tracing and testing of staff and patients is underway and the UL Hospital Group has said that all appropriate infection control measures are being put in place to mitigate the risk to patients and staff.

It comes as the level of overcrowding at the Dooradoyle facility has fallen slightly, with 44 people on trolleys there today, according to the latest INMO figures.

Hospital Management are reminding people that the ED remains ‘extremely busy’ and that every effort is being made by staff to minimise waiting times and maximise patient flow.
