Clare Records One Of Highest Rent Increases In The Country

Clare has seen one of the highest rent increases in the entire country over the past year.

The latest figures from the Residential Tenancies Board shows the average rent in this county jumped by 16% in the past year, which is well above the national average.

The Residential Tenancies Board has today published the Rent Index for the second quarter of this year.

The report, compiled in conjunction with the ESRI, is the most authoritative report of its kind on the Irish rental market, as it’s based on actual rents paid, rather than the asking price.

It shows that renters in Clare were forking out 894 euro on average every month between April and June this year, which represents a 16% rise on the same time last year.

Only Leitrim, which is currently one of the cheapest place in the country to rent, saw a higher rent price increase over that period.

It was more expensive for people to rent in Shannon, where average rents were at €967 in the second quarter of this year, with Ennis not far behind on €921.

The figures for the Killaloe, Kilrush and Ennistymon electoral areas are unavailable in this report.

Today, there are 27 properties to rent across Clare, according to property website daft.ie and the asking price on any property with two beds or more is much higher than the figures released today.

Nationally, rents have increased by 7%, something the Housing Minister believes could indicate a concerning level of non-compliance with legislation.

Minister Darragh O’Brien has requested the Residential Tenancies Board to initiate a targeted campaign to aggressively identify and pursue non-compliance with rent-setting responsibilities.
