Shannon Chamber CEO Believes Extension Of Covid Cert Should Be Considered

The CEO of Shannon Chamber believes the extension of the Covid cert beyond the hospitality sector should be examined, as part of efforts to slow the spread of Covid-19.

The Cabinet Sub Committee on Covid 19 will meet this evening to discuss what measures may be needed to cope with the escalating cases.

The wider use of vaccine certs, antigen tests and working from home are all up for discussion when the Cabinet Sub Committee meets this evening to consider what action needs to be taken to tackle the escalating covid cases.

A full cabinet meeting will then be held tomorrow to approve any changes.

The Taoiseach has said he’s “extremely concerned” at the Covid-19 infection rate, but Micheal Martin insists the vaccine campaign has Ireland “in a different space to last year” regarding lockdowns.

The CEO of Shannon Chamber says businesses have adapted well to the phased return to the workplace and that there’s an onus on everyone to be accountable for how they socialise outside the workplace and the home.

But Helen Downes believes there may be a need to look at extending the Covid Cert beyond the hospitality sector.

A Clare member of ISME’s National Council says the services sector or small and medium businesses would be hit hardest by a return to working from home.

Director of Sales and Marketing for St Tola’s Irish Goat’s Cheese in Ennistymon, Siobhán Ní Ghairbith says workers need to be on site in many cases and businesses have adapted well.

She’s hopeful that any measures will be short lived, but she insists everyone needs to play their part in keeping covid cases down.

Meanwhile, Ennis Chamber’s President fears NPHET and the Government is labelling the hospitality sector as a ‘culprit’ due to rising COVID-19 cases.

Darragh McAllister, of Lucas’ Bar in the town, says there’s no question of publicans having to police antigen tests as a condition of entry.
