Public Health MidWest Ask Clare People To ‘Pause’ High Risk Activity

The Department of Public Health MidWest are asking the people of Clare to ‘pause’ high-risk activity.

It comes as the region has recorded more than 4,300 new covid cases in the two weeks to this Wednesday.

A total of 2,287 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the past seven days, and 4,345 cases recorded in the past 14 days across the Mid-West region

Here in Clare, we’ve seen 721 new infections in the last week and 1,316 in the past fortnight.

This means that the Banner makes up more than a quarter of all covid cases recorded in the Mid-West in the past fortnight.

The county’s incidence rate is now 1,107.6 per 100,000 of the population.

Public Health Mid-West say they’re particularly concerned about the high rate of social activity over the past two to three weeks, with increasing levels of infection among adults aged between 18 and 44.

The department is currently prioritising investigations into outbreaks in key vulnerable settings, meaning outbreaks in other settings may be less likely to be identified or recorded.

They’re asking the public to reduce high-risk activities like attending house gatherings, pubs or nightclubs, to limit how often we meet others, to postpone visits to the elderly or vulnerable and to carry out minimum twice-weekly antigen testing if you do engage in frequent high-risk social activity.

The Director of Public Health MidWest, Dr. Mai Mannix is reminding the public that ‘we can all play our part to break the chains of transmission in the community.’
