Over half of Clare pharmacies withdrawn from Drug Payment Scheme

Elderly people across Clare on regular medication are being urged to take steps to ensure they’re not affected by the pharmacist’s dispute.

The call from Age Action comes as over 760 pharmacists nationwide including over 20 in Clare that have served notice on the HSE that they are withdrawing from the drugs payment scheme as of Saturday.

It affects people covered by public schemes such as the medical card or the community drugs scheme.

The HSE published lists of 852 chemists nationwide that WILL continue to dispense the medicines to medical card and patients after the 31st of July and it includes 20 out of the 42 registered pharmacists registered in Clare.

However there are questions over the accuracy of the lists after a number of pharmacists’ nationwide say they shouldn’t be on the published lists as they have withdrawn their support for the scheme.
