Travel tax and major multinational losses lead to Cityjet loss

Major job losses at multinationals in the Mid West, such as Element Six and Dell are being blamed for Cityjet’s decision to axe its Shannon Paris Service.

Flights will end on the 24th of October with staff transferred to other bases in Europe.

The route was introduced in February 2008 and was a timely boost given Aer Lingus’ decision to terminate its Shannon Heathrow flights.

However Cityjet says the ongoing recession has lead to a sharp falloff in passenger numbers.

And The Company’s CEO Geoffrey O’Byrne White says the government has failed to take any action to minimise the impact
