Clarification sought on regeneration

Clare County Council is seeking written assurances from its Limerick counterpart that no houses have been bought here as part of the regeneration programme.

Earlier this year the local authority voted to have no hand act or part in the strategy to re-house families from Limerick’s troubled spots into South East Clare amid fears of a spill over of anti social behaviour.

The county manager is now urging councillors to engage with the process rather than ignore it but have suspended any further decision until it gets written assurances from Limerick County Council.

South East Clare Labour Councillor Pascal Fitzgerald says he’s been contacted by some residents who claim houses under the programme have already been purchased in Clare and he’s wants answers.
