Taoiseach and Labour Leader in Clare on Lisbon Campaign

The Taoiseach will be urging the people of Clare to vote yes to Lisbon Mark Two when he visits the county today.

Brian Cowen’s trip comes just five days before the county goes to the polls to cast their ballots on Friday and he will be pressing the flesh at a number of events starting with the Annual President’s Lunch of the Shannon Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Cowen will also be taking a walkabout and meeting grassroots members in Ennis which is his first trip to Clare’s County Town since becoming party leader.

Local Councillor Pat Daly says his presence will be a real boost for grassroots members

The Taoiseach will then head West for the remainder of the afternoon with engagements in Kilrush and Kildysart but before that he will officially open Clare’s first natural mineral water company in Lissycasey

Clare Spring Water which was founded last year, began production several months ago and currently employs 10 people with plans for 90 more jobs in the next three years

Owner Paul Connellan says that it’s a honour to be visited by the Taoiseach and is proud of their success in the face of the economic climate

Elsewhere,

And the Labour Leader will also be canvassing for a yes to Lisbon vote in Clare today.

Eamon Gilmore will visit Ennis this afternoon where he will go on a walkabout the town centre and meet with grassroots members.

Party member and South East Clare Councillor Pascal Fitzgerald says his presence will be a boost to their efforts to secure a yes vote.
