Council rejects claims of health and safety disregard

.

Ennis Town Council has rejected claims that it does not have regard for the Health and Safety of traffic wardens

The council’s statement comes as the ongoing dispute between three wardens and the local authority over the payment of a security allowance reaches a deadlock

The wardens are seeking danger money payments following reports of recent assaults, including punching and biting incidents while issuing parking tickets to Ennis motorists

This dispute centres on a security allowance that the wardens are seeking following reports of verbal and physical assaults against them

The issue has been before the Labour Relations Commission and the Labour Court, but SIPTU rejected the Labour Court recommendation and notified the Council of their intention to engage in industrial action from last Friday

In a statement to Clare FM, Ennis Town Council says it’s been in contact with the LRC in recent days and is willing to engage in discussions to bring the dispute to the end

The local authority also refuted suggestions made by workers that the council does not have regard for Health and Safety issues, saying they’ve carried out risk assessments and facilitated training in conflict resolution and dealing with aggressive behaviour.
