Clare motorists have admitted to being the most dishonest in the county when it comes to declaring on car insurance forms.
An online poll commissioned by Setanta Insurance found a staggering seven out of ten car owners in Clare didn’t tell the full truth when buying a policy.
Car owners in Laois, Meath, Carlow and Cavan are also accused of not coming clean, while Dubliners have been shown to be the most honest with fewer than seven percent lying.
The biggest white lies told were in the areas of marital status, where a vehicle is kept and how long a driver’s held a licence.
Setanta Insurance says when people lie on their policies it causes higher premiums for honest motorists.
Meanwhile a quarter of those surveyed considered it acceptable to lie about who was in the car at the time of an accident.
