Gardai investigating the brutal murder of retired farmer Finbar Fahy are investigating the possibility he was beaten to death in an attempted robbery.
They have posted checkpoints along the Ennis to Gort road overnight and early this morning.
The 78 year old was found dead at his home at Ballinduff between Ardrahan and Labane by a family member on Wednesday morning.

A post mortem examination revealed that the retired farmer was hit across the head several times and died as a result of blunt force trauma.
