Gardai are investigating a fire at a house in Ennis during which several other homes has to be evacuated.
The alarm was raised shortly before midnight last night when the fire service was called to deal with a car on fire outside the premises at Saint Anne’s Terrace on Clon Road.
Fire-fighters observed smoke coming from several homes on the terrace and quickly located a second blaze in the back kitchen of a house on the street.
While the blaze hadn’t spread to the other homes, because the attics were open, the smoke had travelled from the first house to the others,
Five houses were then evacuated as five units of the fire brigade from Ennis and Shannon tackled the blaze in the first house along with using industrial fans to try and vent the smoke from the other houses.
The area is now sealed off and a technical examination to determine the cause of the blaze will be carried out.
