Strike action grounds Shannon Flights

Tens of thousands of passengers flying out of Shannon Cork and Dublin Airports face major disruption today.

150 flights have been cancelled as air traffic controllers go on strike.

This industrial action follows the suspension of 15 air traffic controllers – including 5 at Shannon – for failing to co-operate with new work practices involving new technology.

The action will affect passengers at Shannon and Dublin between 2 and 6 and at Cork between 4 and 6 and will affectively shut all three airports as no flights will be able to leave or enter the country.

It’s forced the cancellation of dozens of flights by Ryanair and Aer Lingus including 10 from Shannon.

Travellers are being encouraged to contact their airlines website for more information

The dispute which centres on work practices had been under discussions at the Labour Relations Commission and is now expected to be referred to the Labour Court
