Minister asked about old water pipes

The Environment Minister is being asked to address the issues of outdated water pipes in Ennis as well as conservation throughout Clare before implementing water charges.

Minister John Gormley disappointed many residents of Ennis, Barefield, Clarecastle and surrounding areas recently when he ruled out a rates waiver, despite years of buying bottled water, but some members of Ennis Town Council haven’t given up hope.

Labour Councillor Paul O’Shea has asked the council to oppose domestic water rates, while the Mayor of Ennis, Frankie Neylon is hoping for a rebate on the thousands spent on water during various boil notices.

And Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard believes water rates are ridiculous as infrastrcutural improvments still have a long way to go.
