Members  have had a simplified expenses system since the begining of March which requires them to clock-in in order to get a Travel and Accommodation allowance of up to 37,000 depending on how far they live from Leinster House.

A second expense payout known as the Public Representation Allowance gives deputies up to 25,000 a year but must be vouched with receipts if they go above 15,000.

Fine Gael’s Joe Carey and Pat Breen top the list for the banner county when it comes to their monthly expenses and were among 17 Dáil deputies that claimed over 5000 Euro a month.

Both received € 5,045.84 in allowances for both March and April which brings their combined total for the two months to over €20,000.

But Fianna Fail’s Timmy Dooley is hot on their heels – He was paid just €18  shy of €5,000 for the same period bringing his two month total to € 9,965. 68.

Minister Tony Kileen was paid €3,333.34 cent for the two months or just over 15 hundred per month but has a separate ministerial expense allowance.

The publication of the figures follows the introduction of a new system which links attendance records with the amount a member can claims and the body responsible for running the House of the Oireachtas says the move will result in a greater level of accountability
