Clare Planning Approvals Higher Than National Average

Planning permission has been granted for more homes in Clare than in Dublin for the first quarter of this year.

The CSO has announced that Clare is bucking the trend of the decline in the construction sector, with no drop in the annual figure compared to the first quarter of last year.

Local authorities in Clare granted planning permission for 102 new dwellings in the county in the first three months of the year.

Only four counties – Galway, Mayo, Donegal and Cork – saw permission granted for more homes and despite a 65% drop in the number of dwelling units nationwide, there’s been no change year-on-year figure in Clare.

However, the average size of new dwellings has dropped by an average of about 40 square metres while falls have been recorded in the instances of planning permission granted for other types of development.

Figures from the Central staistics office also show that planning was granted for 21 non-residential units and 57 extensions – both of which amount to significant annual falls.

Councils also gave the green light to 14 alterations or conservations in the first three months of this year, up from 8 in 2009.
