The Government has been asked to review the handing out of money under the European Globalisation Fund, following the decision by Dell last year to axe 2000 staff.
Currently, the Fund covers 12 companies as well as Dell itself, but Limerick East TD Kieran O’Donnell says that should be expanded to include other companies across the MidWest.
A recent report by the Mid West Taskforce, chaired by Denis Brosnan, claims that 2600 indirect jobs were lost as a result of Dell’s decision – However, the original EGF application only catered for 840 of these positions.
