€ 21million Aer Lingus loss

Aer Lingus has reported losses of 21 million euro for the first half of this year  – a considerable turnaround from the 82 million euro in losses last year.

The six months interim figures out today come ahead of a work to rule by the company’s cabin crew at Shannon Cork and Dublin tomorrow in a row over working hours.

This morning’s half year figures from Aer Lingus show the former state carrier is still incurring considerable losses but is a far cry from the 80 million euro in losses posted by the airline this time last year.

The interim results also show that the company actually returned to profit from April to June and the cost of running the airline has fallen 14 percent on last year as the former state carrier implements its controversial 97 million euro restructuring programme.

This cost saving plan has lead management on a collision course with impact cabin crew at Shannon Cork and Dublin over new working hours and tomorrow the impact staff will begin a work to rule .

Aer Lingus says its still in arbitration with the union ahead of the action but doesn’t not expect passenger disruption
