Airport director welcomes possible government’s u-turn on travel tax

 

The head of Shannon Airport has cautiously welcomed the Tourism Minister’s statement that the 10 euro travel tax could be abolished.

Speaking at Failte Ireland’s annual conference this week Mary Hanafin admitted the levy has not yielded the expected revenue due to plummeting passenger numbers and said it could be scrapped.

However Minister Hanafin added that the controversial tax could go if those opposed to it came up with ways of boosting visitor numbers here.
