The daughter of a West Clare county councillor has become surprise contender to replace Defence Minister Tony Killeen on the Fianna Fail ticket in the county
According to newspaper reports today Marina Keane, whose father is Kilkee representative Pat Keane, is a possible running mate for Timmy Dooley.
Sitting councillors Bill Chambers and Michael Hillery have also been mentioned but Cllr Hillery has since ruled himself out as a contender.
Another possible candidate is Ronan Daly – son of former Minister, TD and Senator Brendan Daly who says Minister Kileen’s surprise decision will create a serious challenge for Clare Fianna Fail ahead of its selection convention next week.
The Cooraclare politician has told Clare FM he wouldn’t be interested in a return to public life having served his time, but he’s encouraged the party to use the void left by the Corofin native as an opportunity for fresh talent and change
