Ennis ranked “Clean to European Norms” in IBAl survey

A number of areas across Ennis including around the government offices on the Kilrush Road have come in for criticism in the latest litter league.

However the latest Irish Business Against Litter study has deemed Clare’s County Town to be "Clean to European Norms, placing it in joint 21st position of 53 towns surveyed.

Last year Ennis was judged to be moderately littered in 46th place in the IBAl survey.

The final survey for 2010 highlighted five top ranking sites around Clare’s County Town but added that the grade B sites – the carpark at Lower Drumbiggle Road, Lower Market Street and O Connell Monument could be improved.

It also found that some of these sites were heavily littered with cigarette butts, despite the provision of butt units and highlighted the
government offices on the Kilrush Road as a seriously littered site.

The cleanest town in Ireland will be revealed by IBAL at a ceremony later today from a short-list of Carlow, Drogheda, Longford, Trim and Wexford.

IBAL is also inviting citizens to submit photos of litter blackspots in Clare as part of a “litter twitter” campaign to alert local authorities to litter-ridden areas.
