Chambers rules himself out election race

West Clare Councillor Bill Chambers has confirmed he will NOT be seeking a nomination to contest the general election.

The Cooraclare Councillor had been tipped to join the Fianna Fail ticket even before Minister Tony Killeen’s withdrawal as the party sought a West Clare candidate, and told Clare FM he has been nominated by local members ahead of Sunday’s selection convention.

But after some consideration, Councillor Chambers says he won’t be seeking a move to national politics due to personal commitments and time constraints

Meanwhile more names have emerged as possible election candidates for Fianna Fail including Dr John Hillery – son of former President and Spanish Point native Dr. Paddy Hillery, and Eire Og football manager Martin Daly.

And Clarecastle farmer and millionaire JJ McCabe has also outlined his plans to stand as an Independent Candidate for the General Election in a local newspaper article today.
