Concern raised over Clare mental health services for children

Concerns have been raised that children in Clare suffering from psychiatric illnesses are being treated in Adult care facilities.

It comes as a new Child and adolescent psychiatric unit for Limerick and the MidWest, first proposed 5 years ago, has been shelved – with patients instead referred to Galway for treatment.

However labour Health Spokesperson and Limerick East TD Jan O’Sullivan says Galway doesn’t have the capacity to deal with extra cases and instead young patients are transferred to adult facilities.
