Former Clare politician calls for voting abstention

A former Shannon politician has called on the people of Clare Not to vote in the upcoming General Election.

Peter Flannigan was a member of Shannon Town Commissioners from 1994 to 1999, and though he hasn’t been involved in local politics since, then, he’s now representing what he calls a group of former political activists and calling on people to abstain from voting or spoil their vote.

The group want people to show their total rejection of Ireland’s economic mess and to condemn the actions of politicians, bankers and property developers, and the opposition parties for allowing the controversial finance bill to go through this week.

Peter Flannigan told Clare FM they’re not against democracy or the electoral system but feel that abstaining from the ballot box could be the best way for disillusioned voters to protest
