The Shannon Airport Authority has firmly ruled out Ryanair’s offer to boost flights at Shannon describing the deal as unreasonable and non- negotiable.

The low cost carrier is offering to operate 14 extra routes from the Mid West but wants the airport to pay for every passenger it brings in and also receive a rebate on 3.7 million euro paid to the DAA in a recent legal settlement.

It’s given the airport authority until Friday to reply but the SAA now say Ryanair’s terms would financially run any airport  .

In a statement to Clare FM a spokesperson for Shannon Airport hit out what it calls Ryanair’s unreasonable demands for financial support in expanding its current service in the region.

It comes as Ryanair’s set to hold a press conference in the Mid West today and its being speculated that the airlines boss will again outline his offer to the DAA over increasing services at Shannon -following a similar move by a media conference all ahead of the election.

The low cost carrier is offering to operate 14 extra routes from the Mid West Airport, in a move which it says would halt recent declines in traffic and has set a Friday deadline for a response.

However the Shannon Airport Authority says agreement has to be financially viable for both the airport and the airline.

A spokesperson for the SAA also disputed Ryanair claims that the offer was just an extension of one in place in Dublin and that the low cost carrier is also seeking back the 3.7 million euro it had to fork out to the DAA for breaking its five year deal

They went on to say that after getting clarification from Ryanair in recent days Shannon Airport cannot accede to the airlines request for financial support .
