Plans for a major retail development in Miltown Malbay have been rejected by Clare County Council.
The proposed two storey development included a supermarket incorporating food, newsagent, café and off-licence, while planning was also sought for 62 car parking spaces.
The promoters Michael Gleeson and Jim Shannon anticipated it would generate a turnover of over 11 million euro but the local authority stated it would adversely impact upon the viability and vitality of the Main Street of Miltown Malbay.
The proposal was a rival to the planning application by John Jones for a 4m supermarket and community development in Miltown Malbay which was given the green light by the local authority last year but appealed to An Bord Pleanala by Mr Gleeson and Mr Shannon.
