Hundreds of people are expected to gather in Ballyvaughan this evening to pay their last respects to Deirdre McCarthy who died violently last week .
The 43 year old’s body was discovered on Fanore Strand last Thursday, just days after she vanished from her home following a night out with friends.
Post mortem results revealed she suffered a violent death and gardaí believe her body entered the water at another location following her disappearance on Sunday night or early Monday morning.
Her remains have now been released to the family and she will repose at her sisters residence in Ballyvaughan this evening before being laid to rest tomorrow after 12 o’clock funeral mass in Saint John the Baptist Church.
Meanwhile, its reported that a man who has been helping gardaí with their inquiries on the case is being treated hospital after sustaining injuries in an apparent incident of self-harm.
Its claimed that the incident happened on Friday evening and that the injured man is in a stable condition in hospital but gardaí wont be in a position to interview him for a number of days.
