Boundary opponents optimistic over new minister’s stance

South East Clare residents are more confident their views on the Limerick Boundary issue will be heard by the new Environment Minister.

Fine Gael’s Phil Hogan has met with Denis Brosnan – whose report on the future of local government in Limerick recommended extending the city borders into Westbury and Shannon Banks, and also met with the Mayor of Limerick City  this week.

A decision on the long running boundary issue was put on hold again following the early demise of the last government but members of Clare Against the Boundary Committee are not unduly concerned about losing ground to Limerick under the new Minister.

Chairman Jim Gully expects Minister Hogan to be more understanding of strong Banner pride in the area.
