Tony Mulcahy secures Seanad Seat

 

There’s success for Clare in the Seanad elections.

Fine Gael Councillor and Shannon Mayor Tony Mulcahy has secured a seat in the Upper House of the Oireachtas.

Meanwhile another Seanad hopeful Declan Kellegher lies in fourth place in the count for the three seater NUI panel while Clare’s two other candidates Martin Conway and John Crowe are also vying for a spot on the remaining vocational panels to be filled.

Fine Gael Councillor and General Election candidate Tony Mulcahy was among 21 candidates vying for for of the 11 seats on the Labour Panel .

He secured 64 thousand votes on the first count and with a quota of over 88 thousand – secured a seat on the 13th count.

Among the others to secure seats on the Labour panel was Fidelma Healy Eames from Kinvara while Fianna Fail’s Donie Cassidy and John Hanafin were among the high profile casualties.

Elsewhere and Kilnaboy native and Corofin Principal Declan Kelleher currently lies in fourth place on the 3 seater NUI panel but despite polling well its reported cancer specialist Professor John Crown will fend off the challenge.

28 out of 60 seats have now been filled in the Seanad – counting on the remaining panels will resume at 10- with two more Clare hopefuls  – Ennistymon’s Martin Conway and John Crowe from Sixmilebridge hoping to secure seats.
