Obama rules out releasing Bin Laden photos

US President Barack Obama will follow up on the killing of Osama bin Laden by visiting New York’s Ground Zero today.

He’ll also meet with families of people killed in the 9/11 attacks and lay a wreath at the site.

It comes just days after he ordered the operation to kill bin Laden – the mastermind of the attacks in 2001.

Yet the White House stressed yesterday that it was not a victory tour – and President Obama also appeared on television to explain his decision not to release photos of bin Laden’s corpse.

He said the images would cause national security risks and the United States should not brandish trophies of its victory.

Obama told Steve Kroft, of CBS’s 60 Minutes that he had no other option but to withhold the photos.
