Government Urged To Maintain Education Funding

President of the ASTI and Ennis Teacher Jack Keane believes a new report on class retention rates indicates the government must be investing and not cutting school services.

The data from the Environment Department shows that the numbers sitting the leaving cert are at their highest ever with pupils in Clare schools among the top 20.

Girls are more likely to complete second level but the number of young men staying on now has risen by almost 12%, and there’s also been an hike in the number of students who attend schools in disadvantaged areas.

ASTI president and staff member at Rice College in Ennis Jack Keane is calling on the government to heed the figures and invest rather than cut from education.
