BA flight makes emergency landing at Shannon

A technical problem which forced a British Airways flight to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport is being investigated by airline’s engineers.

In a statement to Clare FM , the company says the the Boeing 7 7 7, with 221 passengers on board, was diverted to the Mid West Airport as a precautionary measure.

It was en route from London Heathrow to Boston when technical problems arose shortly after take-off but landed safely at Shannon shortly after midnight.

A spokesperson for the company apologised for the incident but added that it had to prioritise the safety of passengers and crew.

Passengers were accommodated in hotels overnight and a different aircraft is being sent to the County Clare Airport this afternoon to pick them up.

Passengers are also being advised that if they still wish to travel, British Airways will rebook them onto flights departing for Boston from Heathrow this evening.
