Killaloe Diocese prepares for ordination

The Bishop of Killaloe is preparing to welcome a new addition to the local clergy this weekend with the ordination of a 31 year old Limerick man.

Though vocations to the priesthood are very low across the country, Ger Fitzgerald will be ordained in Castleconnell this Sunday, while Ger Jones from O’Brien’s Bridge will formally join the local church in August.

This Sunday will also mark the first ordination for the new Bishop of Killaloe Kieran O’Reilly since his arrival in Ennis last year.

As his preparations for Sunday’s ceremony continue, Ger Fitzgerald told Clare FM he had some mixed reactions to his vocation but has been delighted with the support of family and friends overall.
