Greek Austerity Vote Today

The first vote by Greek politicians on the country’s austerity plan is due later.

It’s needed to secure new loans from the EU and IMF to prevent a default.

But the plans have triggered violent demonstrations by thousands of people on the streets of Athens.

Rioting on the streets continued last night, leaving 46 people injured and 14 arrested.

Meanwhile, Christine Lagarde has been confirmed as the new head of the International Monetary Fund.

The 55 year old is the first women to hold the job since the body was created.
