A Clare Fine Gael Oireachtas member has insisted the party is united behind Gay Mitchell’s Presidential run, despite a tightly fought battle to secure the party’s nomination.
Fine Gael Councillors, Oireachtas members and the party’s national executive met yesterday where they chose the MEP over his opponents for the position, Pat Cox and Mairead McGuinness.
Among those in attendance at the meeting was North Clare Senator Martin Conway – he’s hoping the party puts the race behind it, and that Gay Mitchell gets the backing of the people of Ireland later this year/
