Ballyvaughan road signage to be increased

New signs are to be erected in Ballyvaughan to direct traffic via the scenic coast road as Clare County Council addresses the concerns of local businesses.

Following the removal of the iconic  N67 signpost – which  carried numerous pointers to local businesses and tourist attractions – the council erected new signs for Fanore and the Coast road at the weekend after pressure from local tourism interests.

But even more new signs are on order following last evenings special meeting of the council as members insisted tourists must be made aware that they can access the Cliffs of Moher via Lisdoonvarna or the Coast Road.

The meeting also sought restoration of the iconic signpost and protected status for it’s original location but that issue has been referred to the next Ennistymon Electoral area meeting as councillors criticised management for a lack of consultation to date.

Tubber Councillor Michael Kelly says many locals still want to see all signs back where they were

Tourism representatives in North Clare have welcomed the return of signs directing tourists from Ballyvaughan to Fanore and the Coast Road.

Lahinch hotelier and Vice President of the Irish Hotels Federation Michael Vaughan is hopeful that businesses will see an immediate boost in trade as the signs has been returned
