The ESB has been given permission to establish an exploratory wave energy project off the Clare coast.
The Department of Environment has granted the ESB Foreshore Exploration Licences for works at Killard Point, near Doonbeg, and also for a separate project near County Mayo.
This will allow for marine surveys and resource measurements to be conducted.
The projects form part of the ESB’s ‘Westwave’ project, which will could lead to the installation of power-generating units off the West coast by 2015.
