Ennis garda injured as suspected serious crime foiled

Two men are being quizzed following an incident in Ennis during which a garda was injured.

Senior Gardaí say events unfolded at around at 2.30 yesterday afternoon as a officer on patrol tried to stop a Silver Honda Civic acting suspiciously in the Francis Street/Abbey Street junction.

In an attempt to flee the scene the driver then drove over the garda’s foot while a second vehicle, a red Pajero Jeep,  which was parked at The Height, also sped off.

A garda chase ensued but the Honda Civic was discovered alight on the slip road between Quin and the M 18 motorway at Kilbrecken Doora.

Two men were subsequently arrested in Ennis and Limerick and Gardaí are hunting two other people they believe were involved in what may have been a robbery attempt in Clare’s County Town.

Both of the vehicles involved were stolen in  Limerick and had false licence plates fitted.

The grey Honda Civic- which had a black bonnet  started with  the registration number  98 C or 98 G – but  the remainder of the plate was extensively damaged in the fire.

The licence plate number on the red Pajero Jeep was 95 LK 2699.

Anyone with any information on the car or the jeep in Ennis from 1 o’lcok to about 2.30 is asked to contact the Gardaí in Ennis on 6848100.
