ESB crews are continuing to repair a number of serious faults in Ennis which left many businesses and residents without power for several hours yesterday.

The Electricity supply was hit at around eleven yesterday morning when a major fault developed on one underground power point near Bank Place.- this subsequently caused an overload on two other underground lines.

It resulted in outages to the nearby banks, shops, cakes, retail outlets, while ATMs across Clare’s County Town were also hit.

Dozens of houses were also affected around Curtins Lane, Marian Avenue, Saint Senan’s Road and around Ennis General Hospital.

Due to the location of the faults, digging equipment had to be brought in and generators were then set up yesterday evening as crews worked to repair the lines.

That work is ongoing and full power to the grid is expected to be restored by this evening.
