Councillors consider special meeting on septic charges

Clare’s Oireachtas members could be asked to set out their views on controversial septic tank charges to local authority representatives before the new levies become law.

Last evening’s meeting of Clare County Council was dominated by a number of motions calling for grant aid for septic tank inspections or upgrades and extra assistance from the council for new developments amid concerns from the Clare public over the new charge.

Though the environment Minister has agreed that Septic Tank registration will cost no more than 50 euro, rural dwellers are fearful that inspections could result in much larger bills for upgrade or repair work.
