Noonan in UK Talks

Michael Noonan’s visit is now set to be dominated by the European fallout of Britain’s use of its veto on a new treaty.

Michael Noonan attends a Bloomberg event, meets financial investors and will call to the Chancellor at the Exchequer.

The Finance Minister and George Osbourne are to discuss issues of mutual concern, with the euro crisis and the Irish bailout on the agenda.

But much of the discussion now is likely to centre on Britain’s refusal to get involved in this fiscal compact agreement.

The Government here has made it clear that as our nearest trading partner it is not in Ireland’s interest for Britain to become isolated from the rest of the union.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach’s had a phone conversation with the British Prime Minister David Cameron about events at last week’s summit in Brussels.

Last night’s call was their first opportunity to discuss the talks – and the conversation is said to have been ‘positive’.
