Judge Mangan replacement appointed

A former running mate of Taoiseach Enda Kenny will replace Joseph Mangan as Clare’s next District Court Judge.

Patrick Durcan, is a former Fine Gael Councillor and Senator and was a key strategist on the Fine Gael team in Mayo that helped deliver an historic four out of five seats for the party in the general election last February.

He was Garret Fitzgerald’s nomination to the Seanad and was the election agent for Junior Minister Michael Ring in several General Elections.

Mr Durcan was one of several judges appointed to the District Courts in recent months following a number of retirements , including that of Ennis native Judge Joseph Mangan.

He was officially sworn into the office at the start of December and while the courts return on January 4th the Mayo native is unlikely  to take up his position in District 12 which covers the courts in Clare and parts of Galway for a number of months to allow for judicial training.

Other changes set to take effect then including cessation of Shannon and Ennistymon District Court Areas while Killaloe sittings will take place at O’Donovan’s Bar and Restaurant.
