No cuts in rate for hard hit Ennis businesses

There is to be no change to rates or parking charges in Ennis in 2012.

The measures formed part of Ennis Town Council’s Budget, which was passed by local representatives last evening, and sees Government support for the Council drop by 9%.

Ennis Councillors were old that the national financial situation has had a major impact on local authority budgeting, a point made acutely clear in a decision to cut the Council’s portion of the Local Government Fund by over 168,000 euro next year.

The meeting was also told that the planned household charge will have no impact on it’s funding in 2012.

However rates charges are to stay the same, even though a low collection rate was described as a ‘serious concern’ by town manager Ger Dollard

Parking charges remain the same, even though the VAT increase is set to see an extra 12,000 euro bill placed upon the Council.  Local businesses will be consulted about a possibility of bringing in further parking initiatives like the one ongoing for the festive period.

Expenditure on public lighting, CCTV and on street cleaning is to increase next year, though spending on housing maintenance and roads maintenance is to be cut, even though the Inner Relief Road Project is expected to proceed in the New Year.
