Man Sentenced To Life For Limerick Murder

 A 29 year old man has been found guilty of the murder of a man whose body was found in South-East Clare last year.

Kevin Coughlan of Avondale Drive, Greystones, has been sentenced to life in prison for killing Francis Greene at Steamboat Quay, Limerick between November 28th and November 29th, 2009.

After nearly 3 and a half hours of deliberations at the Central Criminal Court today, the jury convicted Kevin Coughlan of murder by a majority verdict of 11-1.

He was also convicted of falsely imprisoning Francis Greene before throwing him in to the River Shannon.

It was 6 weeks before the 47-year-old’s body  was discovered by a farmer washed up at Portrine in February of 2010.

The jury heard during a row the accused had put a knife to the deceased’s neck before walking him to Steamboat Quay in Limerick City and pushing him in the water.

Kevin Coughlan has also been convicted on charges of producing a knife and assaulting a homeless man Roy Finn who was staying at the deceased’s basement flat at Lower Hartstonge Street at the time.
