Clare records rise in house prices

It appears Clare is bucking the trend when it comes to house prices in Munster.

New figures from property website, My Home.ie reveal the cost of a 3 bedroom semi here rose by 0.6% in the last quarter to 160 thousand – the only county to record a rise for this house type in the region.

Nationally, the report shows the average asking price for a home is down 13 percent in 2011 while another report from property website Daft.ie puts it at 18 percent – while both indicate a 50 percent fall since the peak of the boom.

However the number of mortgages being issued also declined last year  and Managing Director of My Home Angela Keegan is urging banks to free up more finance for home buyers in 2012.
